The Team

Take a look at our dance teachers biographies below and learn more about each of them, as we are proud to have such fantastic teachers working with us Solihull School of Dance.

Jackie Lee Clark

Principal

I learnt my first Ballet steps at the tender age of 2 at The Dance Academy in Harbourne, studying the R.A.D (Royal Academy of Dance) Syllabus. At the age of 7, I was recommended to attend the West Midlands Youth Ballet, a professional school in Solihull where I trained for 9 years under Phyllis Kempster and Morwenna Bowen.

Discipline was of great importance and high standards were expected from all dancers at all times. In 1993 and 1994 I auditioned for the Birmingham Royal Ballet where I was accepted on their Senior associate programmes. I was honoured to be taught by some of the finest principal teachers and dancers of the Royal Ballet.

In 1995, to further my career, I auditioned and was offered a place at the English National Ballet School in London.

Returning home, and realising I wouldn’t be able to dance forever, I joined Margaret Woodroffes School of Dance where I studied intensively for 4 years to achieve my fully qualified Teacher of Dancing status which enabled me to open my own school.

With over 20 years of teaching experience and focusing on the detailed Technique, artistry, choreography and discipline, I pride myself on excellent examination results, quality performances, teacher training and vocational opportunities with Birmingham Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Elmhurst and many more.

I am a fully qualified PBT teacher and hold an enhanced DBS certificate.

Privates lessons can be arranged by request.

Miss Jacquelyn

Assistant Teacher

I have a lifelong love of dance and teaching, with the majority of my dance training carried out at the Margaret Woodroffe School of Dance, gaining all IDTA grades and performers awards up to and including Advanced 2.  I am a fully qualified teacher through the IDTA achieving Membership, Licentiate and Fellowship.  I have also trained in the Cecchetti method, under the instruction of Eve Leveaux at Derby Academy, and am also studying for the ISTD Diploma in Dance Education.

I have furthered my studies outside of the IDTA, holding various qualifications in fitness instruction and aerobics, including Progressing Ballet Technique and am RAD Silver Swans trained.

My life has been dedicated to dance, health, fitness and the teaching of others.  I believe it is imperative to continue education and update knowledge on a regular basis, so I am always able to deliver my best to students.

I have over 30 years of teaching experience and am DBS checked.

Miss Kathryn

Assistant Teacher

I have been dancing since the age of 3 as a loyal student of Margaret Woodroffes school of dance. I trained in Ballet and Tap and achieved all my qualifications as a dancer.

Wanting to progress my career I joined Miss Jackie in her venture to open her own school.
My passion for Choreography was intense and I was so proud to be able to create some stunning work with the dancers for the schools performances.

My loyalty and friendship with Miss Jackie hold no bounds and I look forward to many more years of guest teaching at Solihull School of Dance.

Miss Gabby

Cover Teacher

I have been dancing for over 32 years and started at The Sandra Shelton School of Ballet in Fleet, Hampshire, just before my third birthday. When I was 7 years old, my family moved to Solihull, and I was recommended to attend the Solihull School Of Ballet under the excellent tuition of Mrs Phyllis Kempster and Miss Morwenna Bowen. I stayed with them, progressing through my RAD grades and assisting on Saturdays, until I went to university at 18.

Throughout my school career I performed in many productions, acting and dancing, and I also gained various medals and awards at the annual Northfield festival, whilst taking exams in LAMDA speech & Drama.

After a few years away from ballet, I returned to adult classes and was so pleased to find that Jackie-Lee had started her own school. Since then I haven’t looked back and have taken further exams in performance and teaching. Ballet has always been my passion in life and I hope to pass this on to the students I have the privilege to teach.

Miss Emily

Assistant Teacher

I started ballet when miss Jackie first opened solihull school of dance 16 years ago! I have always danced with miss J and SSD quickly became my second family. Although ballet has always been my first love, I also enjoy contemporary dance and singing. Since the very first show I have loved performing but I have also gained a passion for costume design and choreography and used these skills when producing two charity dance shows whilst I studied for my A levels. I have just finished a degree in Fine Art at Bath Spa University and I am now training to be a secondary school teacher with Birmingham City University. I hope to combine my love of ballet with my love of art by bringing dance as an extracurricular activity to the schools I teach at.
